Patsy Koelder was born Patsy Ruth Mitchell, Feb. 17, 1926 in Hall County, Texas to Wendell and Alice Mitchell. She graduated from Lakeview High School and attended business school in Plainview, TX.
She married Roger Ellerd and he preceded her in death in the Korean Conflict. She married Calvin Koelder Jan. 17, 1953 and helped on the family farm in Cotton Center, TX. They moved to Gallup, NM in 1974 where she was manager of the El Hopi Motel for several years. They moved to Groom TX., in 1984. Calvin died June 27, 1994. Patsy later moved to Amarillo in 2012.
Patsy loved her family and treated her nieces and nephews like they were her own children. She was always ready to go out with her family anytime there was a birthday or celebration. She wanted to be in the middle of the bunch. She was a compassionate and strong woman. Patsy loved to read books, she would read two or three at a time and saved the scary ones to read at night. She liked to work crossword puzzles and word searches and enjoyed cooking and working in the flower garden.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dorman Mitchell and John Mitchell and a sister, Nell Dean.
Survivors include a son, Joe Ellerd and wife Linda of Amarillo; two daughters, Kelly Maldonado and husband Bennie of Gallup, N.M., and Kina Wilson and husband Jeff of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; Shane Kennedy, Tisha Kennedy, Mikah Wilde, Dominic Maldonado, Domonique and Santana Landavazo, Erin McCullough and Haleigh Woodard; 11 great-grandchildren; Dustin Cagle, Tayla Brown, Amber and Autumn Jones, Tinsley, Lenni and Remi Wilde, Ella and Myla McCullough and Tristin and Oliver Woodard; and three great-great-grandchildren, Slayton and Hadlee Cagle and Jetzen Brown as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at Hale Center Cemetery on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
