Marylan Gillean, 82 of Lubbock, Tx, passed away on October 30, 2022. Marylan was born in Houston, Tx on December 11, 1939; to Grace and Morris Long. Marylan married Max Gillean on October 11, 1959, together they had 3 children, Kobey Gillean Nicholson, Andy Gillean and Kasey Gillean Stephens
Marylan worked in accounting for United Parcel Service for 20 years and enjoyed tole painting for the last 20+ years. Marylan was a talented Tole Painter and she was a part of the Golden Spread Chapter of Decorative Painters. She enjoyed many years traveling to painting workshops with her mother-in-law (Mama Rhea) and sister-in-law (Mickey) to paint with a variety of teachers. She left her family with many beautiful reminders of this talent and love. One of our many favorite memories of Marylan is her sitting in her very messy painting room working on her newest project which was usually for someone in her family. She spent her last days before entering the hospital painting Christmas gifts for her daughters and granddaughter-and then hid them without telling anyone where they were.
She is survived by her husband, Max, of 63 years, children Kobey (husband Bill), Andy (wife Vivianna), and Kasey (husband Brent); and their children; grandchildren: Jacob Nicholson, Bailey Stephens, Joel Nicholson and William Nicholson III, Ethan Matthew Gillean. Sisters-in-law, Mickey Holley, Sonja Johnson and Bonnie Long and brother-in-law Arnold Holley. Also, many beloved nieces, nephew and great-nieces and nephews.
Marylan was preceded in death by her father, Morris E Long, and her mom, Grace D Long and her grandson Kadin Rowe Stephens.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be on Friday, November 4, 2022, at St Thomas Mausoleum at Resthaven Cemetery, @ 11:00am. Mr. Arnold Holley of Holley Funeral Home, of Canyon, TX. officiating.
