Jewell Eveline Morrison McClellan, 94, previously of Canyon, died Monday, August 21, 2023, in Tyler, Texas.
Services will be held on August 26, 2023, with Rev. Gene Jones presiding. Family viewing from 8:30 to 9:00 am at Holley Funeral Home, with graveside services at Dreamland Cemetery at 10:00 am.
Jewell was born July 17, 1929, in Konawa, Oklahoma, to William Elmer “Jack” and Ola Carroll Morrison. Jewell knew the value of hard work and caring for others. As children, she and her siblings worked the land and picked cotton. Gathering cattle one day, she met the neighbor boy, B.F., who was gathering his family’s herd. She married Billy Franklin “B.F.” McClellan on May 19, 1948, in Savannah, Oklahoma. During their marriage, Jewell always worked, whether it was as a secretary, a nursing home attendant, or, in Canyon, as a childcare worker for Sunshine Day Care. She built relationships with people wherever she went.
She was dynamite in a small package, feisty but loving. She and B.F. had a unique love they shared with their family. She often cooked a roast for Sunday dinner, baked Milky Way cakes and Mississippi Mud, and her chocolate bowl was never far. If a grandchild looked for her, Grandpa would say she went South with a herd of turtles. We never quite figured out where that was.
Jewell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canyon, Texas, before moving to live closer to her daughter in 2009.
Jewell was preceded in death by her husband, B.F., parents, two brothers and three sisters, her daughter, Phyllis Watson, and her daughter-in-law, Eva. Survivors include son, Gary McClellan of Canadian; daughter Billie Nelson and husband Paul of Tyler; son-in-law Terry Watson, daughter-in-love Victoria McClellan; 7 grandchildren, Amy and John Sappington, Seth and Melissa McClellan, Christie and Michael Crook, Buffie and Richard McDonald, Melissa and Jeff de Veer, Tracie and B.J. Dimas, and Nicholas and Patricia Nelson. She adored her 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside rites will be held in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, TX at 10:00 am with the Reverend Gene Jones officiating. The Family will receive guest from 8:30 to 9:00 at Holley Funeral Home on Saturday morning before the service.
