Janice Carolyn Henson Dickerson died Sunday May 1, 2022.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nolon and Bobby Henson, and her sister, Luan.
She is survived by her daughters: Austin Cox and husband Jay, of Happy; and
Rachel Lewis of Canyon, and grandson Isaac Burrow.
She is also survived by her brother Rusty and wife Janice of Quitaque.
Born September 3, 1954, Jan was raised on the Happy Hereford Ranch in southwest Randall County,
the place she would live most of her life.
The granddaughter of Walter Graham, she spent time helping him pen cattle
atop her beloved Quarter Horse “Old Blue”,
Jan was a 1972 graduate of Canyon High School,
the first female student to take CHS Ag classes.
She went on to attend West Texas State University,
where she was a proud member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
She graduated WT in 1976, and worked for Monsanto in Guymon, Oklahoma
and Chillicothe, Ohio, before returning to the Panhandle,
and ultimately returning to the Ranch to raise her family.
Jan loved to cook and host, the skills taught to her by her mother, Bobby Graham Henson.
Jan loved her family, she was kind, forgiving and generous.
She was also private, and fought cancer for over a year without drawing attention to herself,
more concerned with the needs of others than her own.
She loved her grandson, Isaac, whom she happily took care of every day she was able.
Jan was a collector.
Over the years she lovingly collected dolls, decorations and friends,
but her love language was giving.
No one Jan knew stayed in need for long, she made sure of it.
She happily shared everything she had, most importantly,
she shared memories and stories with her family until her final days.
The family will receive visitors on Friday evening from 5:30 - 7 at Holley Funeral Home in Canyon.
A graveside service will be held Saturday morning at 10 at Dreamland Cemetery,
where Jan will be laid to rest among the family she loved so much.
The family asks that any generosity you would like to share be sent to the
WTAMU Luan Henson Memorial Presidential Scholarship Fund.
