Garland Wayne “Patch” Land passed on January 5, 2023, from complications of an unexpected illness. Wayne was born September 6, 1963, in Amarillo Texas and was adopted by Clarence and Verna Land. Wayne went to live with his sister Rita and husband Lonnie Hoagland at a young age where he learned the “Cowboy Way” of life. Wayne learned how to ride, work cattle, break horses, and a multitude of other ranching responsibilities and became a true “cowboy’s” cowboy. While on the ranch, Wayne broke many horses, some of which were more challenging than others which fueled his passion for adventure. He had a very charismatic personality and always had a story to tell that would have you rolling on the floor from laughter or questioning how true the story really was. When it came to fighting, he was a mean cuss that didn’t fight fair. He never hesitated to get in the middle of something if it meant defending himself or the ones he loved. He was full of life and had adventures that only many of us dream of. No matter the situation, he always knew he could come home to Rita and Lonnie and be with the ones that loved him.
Wayne was not perfect and never pretended to be. Wayne professed his faith to the Lord and was baptized on June 26, 2014. He was a member of the Randal County Mounted Search and Rescue where he assisted in many horse-back search and rescue situations. He loved to ride and especially enjoyed going on long rides with Lonnie and his niece, Lonna, in Palo Duro Canyon and various areas though out the Panhandle. He also enjoyed attending his niece’s and nephew’s sporting events.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents. Wayne is survived by two sisters, Rita Hoagland and husband Lonnie of Canyon, TX, Vickie Mears and husband James of Sanford, TX, one daughter, Kimmie Hammarbeck and family of Sandston, VA, one son Ty Land of Amarillo, TX, and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Randal Country Mounted Search and Rescue. Attention: Rick Stalder, 24001 Laguna Vista Rd, Amarillo, TX 79119.
Memorial Services will be scheduled at a later date.

'Cowboys Last Request'
Let me tell you folks
Who have gathered here today
That I’m a proud and thankful cowboy
Who has just passed away
I know it’s hard
But,please don’t cry
Fer I’m now ridin’ God’s trails
High up in the sky
The hoss I’m ridin’ now
Don’t spook, buck or kick
Fer God stables perfect horses
And now I have my pick
Lord, please forgive me of my sins
Fer I haven’t been perfect
But I know that he who believes in You
Forever wins!
I have lived a good life
A cowboy’s dream come true
Thank You Lord,
Fer I’m now ready to ride into eternity
Me, my horse and You.
