Dorothy was born in a farmhouse outside of Bradley, South Dakota on May 17, 1921, to Alvin and Agnes Forbragd. She graduated from high school in Aberdeen, S. Dakota where she met Burton B Fick. They were Married on Feb 3, 1940.
Dorothy's working career began as a medical records librarian in Fergus Falls, MN and after several moves she retired in Florida from the VA as manager of the medical records department. She lovingly raised 4 children, Karren, Yvonne, Daryl and Bonnie.
Upon the death of her husband, Burt, February 24,1991, she moved from Florida to LaMesa, CA to live near her son, Daryl. Shortly thereafter she met John Navarro. They married June 8, 1996. John died 6 years later.
After John's death, Dorothy lived independently but Daryl and his wife, Jana, watched over and cared for her. After suffering a stroke in her early 90’s and a fall breaking her femur December of 2014, Dorothy needed daily care. Her daughters Karren and Yvonne alternated care for her along with help from Daryl and Jana. Early November, 2016, Bonnie and Paul came from Amarillo to become her caregivers and on April of 2017 she moved to Amarillo to be cared for there until her death.
Dorothy is survived by her 4 children, Karren Sharkey, Yvonne Sunnarborg and husband Tom, Daryl Fick and wife Jana, Bonnie Hull and husband Paul, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grands.
Each of us has a family history. This is briefly Dorothy's but what is most important was her testimony that she trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior. No matter what else is said about Dorothy, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; however, without her trust in the Lord, we would all have much for which to grieve. As much as she loved her family, if she were to be given the choice to return or stay with God in heaven, she would stay right where she is. All that counts at the end of our lives is what our choice has been concerning Jesus Christ.
Family will celebrate services on Saturday 4-23-22 in Holley Funeral Home Chapel Canyon, Texas @ 10:00 am with Chaplain Arnold Holley officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL beside her husband Burton Fick.
